Shimoga (Shivamogga) to Bangalore is a roughly 300 km journey south-east, running through Bhadravathi, Kadur, Arsikere and Tiptur to Tumakuru and then on NH-48 into Bengaluru, while some buses take the Channagiri–Holalkere–Chitradurga route instead. KSRTC's online booking lists 33 buses a day from Shivamogga Bus Stand, from the budget Karnataka Sarige and Ashwamedha (Point To Point Express) to Airavat Club Class, Airavat Club Class 2.0 and EV Power Plus, plus Non AC Sleeper and Pallakki (Non AC Sleeper) for overnight travel. Many of these buses start further out in Sagar, Thirthahalli, Sirsi or Kundapura and pass through Shivamogga, with departures from 01:00 AM to 11:55 PM. The trip takes about 5 to 7 hours and is the main road link for students, IT workers and families from the Malnad region heading to the state capital.

Travel Tips
- 22 of the 33 buses leave after 08:00 PM, so a Non AC Sleeper or Pallakki (Non AC Sleeper) lets you sleep through the trip and reach Bengaluru early the next morning.
- Almost every bus (32 of 33) drops at Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic); if you are heading to east or south Bengaluru, look for the few services that also stop at K R Puram, Tin Factory, Shanthinagar or Jayanagar.
- Many buses on this route start from Sagar, Thirthahalli, Sirsi or Kundapura and only pass through Shivamogga, so check the departure time at Shivamogga Bus Stand and reach a little early in case the bus is running ahead of schedule.
- Karnataka Sarige and Ashwamedha cost just ₹380, while the AC Airavat Club Class and EV Power Plus run ₹698–₹835 — book AC and sleeper seats early for Sunday nights and the end of long weekends, when Bengaluru-bound buses fill fast.
Best time to travel: July to December is the most pleasant time to travel Shimoga to Bangalore, after a monsoon visit to Jog Falls and the Malnad hills. Sunday evenings and the last day of long weekends are the busiest, so book early for those dates.
