Travel Tips
- Take a daytime bus if you want the view — 11 of the 22 buses leave between 06:00 AM and 06:00 PM, and the ghat stretch through Sullia and Madikeri is best seen in daylight.
- For overnight travel, 10 buses leave after 08:00 PM; the Ambaari Utsav (AC Sleeper), Non AC Sleeper and Pallakki let you sleep through the Coorg ghats and reach Mysuru early in the morning.
- Almost every bus also picks up at Jyothi Circle, Kankanady, Pumpwel and Padeel after leaving Mangaluru Bus Station, so board at the stop nearest you.
- The Sampaje–Madikeri ghat section can be slow and slippery during the June–September monsoon, so expect the journey to run toward the upper end of the 5.5–8 hour range and carry motion-sickness medicine if needed.
Best time to travel: October to March is the best time to travel Mangalore to Mysore, when the Coorg hills are green and the ghat roads are dry; it also covers Mysuru Dasara (September–October), when buses fill up fast. The June–September monsoon brings heavy rain and occasional landslide delays on the Madikeri ghat.
